Former Gov Jesse is is own worst enemy and I wish he would go home now.

He won but he has been on a non-stop media blitz yelling about how wronged he was and how it was unfair that he had to got to court against a widow and a dead guy...oh wait..they offered to settle...he turned them down because "it wasn't about the money."

He wanted this trial..millions of dollars of free publicity, because that is who he is, an washed up entertainer. Someone asked him "if it wasn't about the money is he going to give it back to the widow?" No, of course not.

If i were on that jury he wold have lost cause he did not prove that the author lied, a requirement, and further he did not prove he lost anything because of it. One juror mentioned that he voted how he did because he thought Jesse seemed "less upset" than Kyle's wife. Now that is a good reason to find for Jesse. Jesse knew that whatever the verdict, this trial this publicity was pure gravy.

Rhetorical question: Why was it tried in Minnesota anyway? Jesse no longer lives here, he said a while ago and Kyles live in CA.

And one juror making a limited statement doesn't mean that other evidence wasn't considered, does it?

I'm not a fan of Jesse...but this is his gig, let it play out and he'll go back to anonimity.

2. If Chris Kyle did go after Ventura in a bar fight as he claimed in his book, that says

something about CK's character and his willingness to go to blows in a fight with an older man.

But ventura proved in court that CK lied about it in his book. So it appears that Chris Kyle lied in his book, maybe to sell more books.

That also says a lot about CK's character.

Two of ten jurors said he did not agree that Ventura proved his case, they were willing to hang the jury and cause a mistrial than find for Ventura so it was not "proved in court".

It was then settled in court, an agreement reached with Mrs Kyle and Ventura.

a less than unanimous jury. That jury returned a verdict in Ventura's favor; so, yes, it was "proved in court." The burden of proof in a civil case like this is preponderance of the evidence, which basically means Ventura proved to the agreed-upon jury that his version of the facts was, more likely than not, true. There was no settlement; there was a jury verdict.

3. Apparently Ventura was a legal resident of MN

at the time the case was filed; he chose the venue and nobody claimed he wasn't a resident. Kyle's widow tried to get it moved to Texas but the judge denied the motion. I wouldn't worry too much about the widow; she's not going to starve - the book made a lot of money - and anyhow the judgment, or at least a good share of it, will probably be paid by the publisher's insurance company. I don't know what I'd have decided because I wasn't there and didn't hear all the evidence, but I was kind of surprised Jesse won, partly because libel cases are always difficult, and partly because Jesse is such a goofy character that I didn't think he had much of a reputation to lose any more.

No doubt Jesse is a publicity hog, but I don't think the publicity from this trial will go very far for him.

and I do think Kyle made up the story. However, insurance is only covering the $500,000 judgement for defamation. The other $1.345m is coming from the money paid to Kyle for royalties and whatever else they may have paid him.

8. Actually, most of the evidence backed Jesse's story

The guy who put on the wake saw no fight

The lady who sat near Jesse at the bar saw no fight and heard a completely different statement from Jesse(that Afghanistan wasn't one Seals life)

Jesse showed no physical evidence of a fight despite being on blood thinners.

All of Kyle's witnesses told different stories and no one saw the whole "incident". None were in the immediate area.

Kyle himself told two different stories, one claimed it happened at the bar, one on the patio.

None of the family members that were the target of the alleged statement by Jesse testified for Kyle. None of the people in the immediate area of the fight testified for Kyle.

Jesse was the one who offered to settle. All Kyle had to do was admit he made it up. He refused and deserves to lose. Kyle has a history of lying. He even said he was going to donate the profits from the book to charity. Only a small fraction was donated to charity. Kyle is the one who fabricated the story for publicity, not Jesse.

People who smear vets for profit are pond scum. It's a shame that Kerry didn't do the same to O'Neill.

And Jesse is not going away. He just announced a podcast on Adam Corolla's podcast network(We the People with Jesse Ventura).

It was a stick to the eye of both the Republicans and the DFL. They got too comfortable. I like Skip Humphrey, he also did a lot for the State. Jesse told it exactly how he saw it and he won. He knew years ago the local news media was a pathetic joke. Its only gotten worse..... Yeah Jesse's a nut, but he's our nut.

over 60% voted for Humphrey or that weasel Coleman (God only knows why).

This is why we need instant run off voting.
