Maybe the all those children that were violated by his associates will get their day in court. Watch Stearn's County for Court Action. And,next will be Winnona. About friggin time.

the fact that the official announcement came from the Vatican pretty much means the Pope is the one who decided he should resign.

Poor Nienstedt all those dreams of a red hat (being made a cardinal) gone. If he's lucky, the worse thing that will happen to him is that he winds up in a remote monastery contemplating the sins of pride and arrogance.

I wonder if - now that he's no longer an archbishop - the Vatican will try him itself in the new tribunal set up to try bishops who failed to protect children from abusive priests? Interestingly, this tribunal will be under the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which was once known as the Inquisition.

And, of course, nobody ever expects the Spanish Inquisition...

I meant to call my aunt tonight. She lives in the New Ulm diocese where Nienstedt was bishop before he was sent up here to cure the St. Paul Archdiocese of it's liberal ways (seriously, Pope Benedict thought Flynn was too liberal) and she's been laughing at us ever since that happened. I was concerned her Rosary Society might be partying a bit too hard at this news. (You should have heard the conversation she and the priest at my brother's memorial had about the archbishop - I think the priest really enjoyed venting to a like minded person).
