Photos: Freezout goose migration nearing its peak
The annual migration of white geese at Freezout Lake Wildlife Management area was in full effect Thursday as bird-watchers flocked from across the state to witness the flocks of snow geese and Ross's geese.
According to daily observations published by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, Thursday saw roughly 45,800 white geese, which is below the yearly average of 53,906 geese but up from 9,500 geese observed on Monday.
The migration historically peaks between March 23-26 every year.
Those planning a visit to watch the migration can visit a migration tracker updated daily by Montana FWP.
