Montana Ski Area Closed Indefinitely
They're waiting until they "get more snow."
Ian Greenwood Feb 1, 2024
Starting Friday, January 26th, Turner Mountain Ski Area, Montana, closed due to warm weather and low snowfall.
Per a Facebook update published Tuesday, January 30th, this "temporary" closure will remain in effect until more snow arrives.
Under the January 30th update from Turner, one skier captured the mood perfectly: "This winter has sucked!!!"
It's not just a feeling. Turner first opened for skiing and riding on January 15th of this season. Last winter, it opened over two weeks earlier, on December 24th.
Similarly, in the Kootenai region where Turner is located, the snow water equivalent is 68% of the median, per the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

(6,346 posts)not surprised with the warm weather they are having. One of the best ski hills in Montana, almost back country skiing, no frills. Steep and deep, used to have a mile long T Bar to get to the top. Only for the brave at heart.

(93,294 posts)The Thanksgiving week ski festival in West Yellowstone was canceled again this year, so is the dog sled race across the continental divide. We have no snow, the peaks have a little but it looks more like April than Jan/Feb.
If the whole state doesn't burn down this year it will be a miracle.
