Christie blasts Trump's advisers, calling president 'ill-served'

TRENTON -- Gov. Chris Christie on Tuesday night defended President Donald Trump's controversial travel ban on citizens from seven Muslim-majority nations insisting its chaotic implementation was the result of the president's staffers bungling its roll out, and not the president's policy.

"He was ill-served by whoever it was who came up with the way to roll this out," Christie, a longtime Trump friend and adviser, said during an interview on MSNBC's "The 11th Hour with Brian Williams."

The governor would go on to say that Trump, a fellow Republican was "ill-served" by his staff a total of six times in the course of the next 12 minutes on-air, adding that the president should be "rightfully upset with the people who did this."

Christie, who'd been passed over as Trump's running mate, had served as his transition planning chief, but was demoted shortly after the election. The governor had also pressed Trump to serve as his attorney general, but lost out to U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama.

5. To be fair, I'm not seeing the shining beacons of leadership I'd like to from the Democrats either.

We really need a leader right now, someone to rally around and someone to focus the energy of the Democratic base, and none is emerging.

8. The debate on this board shows some division over who that leader might be.

Sanders, Ellison, Warren are all good candidates from my perspective.

9. But none of them is emerging as the rallying point for Democrats. I would have thought

it would have been Warren, but it's not happening.

ETA: I'd like to see more from Duckworth. She's a bulldog, and I think we need that now. Franken has captured some of our imagination, but no one is providing a structure. We need a structure.

10. Yes, we need a structure, and to some degree, a focal point.

Politicians can be that focal point, that personification, of a movement. But we must also remember that no politician is a movement. They are at best a member of a movement, but the people must always keep pressure on politicians.

it appears that Christie was shunned in favor of people that are even bigger asses than he is (even though that is unimaginable).

And I don't think it was my imagination that Brian Williams was getting irritated with Christie. I can't remember exactly what he said, but after sitting through all Christie had to say, he responded with a comeback that was critical of Trump, then promptly went to break.
