State worker says supervisor punched her in the face

A state Human Services Department employee is seeking a restraining order against her supervisor, claiming in a court filing that after a confrontation over her work performance, he pushed her and punched her in the face, then fled their Santa Fe office after she tried to call a 911 emergency operator.

A police report attached to her petition describes a workplace clash in which the supervisor also allegedly unplugged her computer and prevented her from using phones when she tried to communicate with his boss.

Her manager, Donald Ortega, 51, who in a phone interview Thursday confirmed that he has been on paid leave since the Aug. 28 incident, denied the woman’s account, including that he ever shoved or punched her.

A Santa Fe Police Department spokesman said the department has sent a criminal complaint accusing Ortega of battery, false imprisonment and interference with communications to the District Attorney’s Office for possible prosecution. No charges had been filed as of Thursday.
