No sign feds will halt planned power price hike

Poughkeepsie Journal

Thursday came and went with no word from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on whether it will reconsider its plan to increase the prices consumers pay for power in the mid- and lower Hudson Valley region.

Despite an "emergency motion" filed by Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. on Wednesday, one day before the "new capacity zone" plan kicked in, there was no sign from FERC that anything was happening to halt the plan that will boost power prices about 6 percent for homes and up to 10 percent for industries, in Central Hudson's estimates.

It looks like the increases are already getting baked into the cake.

Spokesman John Maserjian at Central Hudson said the effect would start to show in June bills, which will cover April and May. It won't be nearly as bad as the winter bill spikes that consumers saw, he said.
