NRC issues supplement to FEIS for Indian Point license renewal

BUCHANAN – The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has issued a supplement to the Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement it prepared for the Indian point nuclear power plant license renewal application. The updated document includes new information about possible impacts of the Buchanan on the aquatic environment.

NRC spokesman Neil Sheehan said the second phase of a hearing on the application has yet to be scheduled. The judges will likely plan it for later this year, he said.

“Once they rule on all of the various contentions then the final phase would be for the five-member commission itself to vote on whether or not the Indian Point license should be renewed,” Sheehan said.

Indian Point spokesman Jerry Nappy said plant owner and operator Entergy is “pleased the NRC has concluded there are no environmental issues that would prevent license renewal, and accepted the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s determination that our thermal impact on the river is small.”
