Animal rights group holds advocacy day, pushes for package of legislation to protect animals
By Matthew McKibben
A leading animal welfare advocacy group is urging the state Legislature to pass a package of bills that would provide increased protection for pets and their owners.
The American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals held their lobby day in Albany Wednesday in which activists called on legislators to take action on several pieces of legislation that would, improve adequate shelter for dogs kept outdoors (A.8891/S.6299); prohibit breed discriminatory insurance policies (A.3952/S.4822); establish a pilot programs that would neuter stray cats and return them to the areas they were found in an attempt to control population (A.9487); accommodate pet owners using public transportation during natural disaster evacuations (A.9519); and lowers sale thresholds for dog breeders to qualify for state licenses (A.2115-b/S.4202-b).
