Commercial arm of the Chickasaw Nation interested in operating Albany casino

By MATTHEW L. McKIBBEN

Representatives from a Native American tribe based in Oklahoma met with Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan last week and "presented themselves as the operator" of a proposed casino near Exit 23 of the Thruway, said the mayor's senior policy adviser, Shalyn Morrison.

Morrison described the meeting as a "basic meet and greet."

Global Gaming Solutions operates five casinos in Oklahoma and Texas on behalf of the Chicasaw Nation. The group operates Oklahoma's largest gambling operation, WinStar World Casino and Resort – which includes about 500,000 square feet of gambling floor space – and is about 70 miles north of the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

but it seems like the local tribes have done pretty well to keep the dirtbags out of the business, although they did use their help when it came to designing their casinos.

I do know the reservations are a lot more prosperous these days. They've also put a lot of the money back into the business and the resort facilities are really nice.

I'll be going to a concert at one of them over the summer, a wonderful outdoor venue.

I'm not a gambler, feeding money into a machine and pushing buttons looks like work to me and with even less reward than a job gives. They do ban alcohol and that helps keep people from losing everything.

and the bouncer wasn't looking. I didn't find it particularly fun.

but my parents seemed to consider it a big deal for a kid. It did sour me on gambling for life and I have thanked them for that.

Besides, if I wanted to gamble, I'd get in on penny ante poker. That can be fun. Slots? Meh.

so I got to be quite good at it.

I did end up on a lot of shit lists when I taught it to other kids as I was growing up. I never understood what the fuss was all about, I taught them how to play chess, too.
