NY Assembly and Senate receive Moreland Commission-related records preservation request from US attorney
KEN LOVETT
The state Assembly and Senate have been formally asked by US Attorney Preet Bharara's office not to destroy or get rid of any of its documents pertaining to Gov. Cuomo's anti-corruption commission, the Daily News has learned.
The preservation request requires Assembly members and their staff to preserve all records and documents, whether in paper or electronic form, related in any way to Cuomo's now defunct anti-corruption panel, Joanne Barker, a counsel to the Democratic majority, wrote Tuesday in a memo to all members of the Assembly and staff.
A Senate GOP spokesman confirmed the Senate received a similar request.

(37,449 posts)why would a commission that was investigating corruption need a lawyer? What did they know and when did they know it? The governor himself back peddled and sent it (the commission) on its way.

Also.. I wasn't even aware of this development. I read the Times, more or less every day.
Why *does* the Moreland Commission need a defense atty?
Thanks god for Justin keeping a relentless eye on these machinations.

(14,498 posts)Apparently that is the coin of the political realm in this neck.
It's hard to wrap one's mind around the thought processes of these people. I guess that's how they get away with this stuff. Most people don't think that way and so one really has to make a conscious effort to understand the intricacies of these "arrangements".
Thanks for keeping this stuff together for us , Justin.
I'll see if I can find yesterday's NYT coverage of Sen Smith on tape and post it to the forum. It reignited my interest in the case. ( You can move it here if it makes sense to keep everything pertaining to this trial in one place.)
Confusing ( and depressing) stuff, but I'm glad we're finding out about it.

Albany
Albany County District Attorney David Soares and other members of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's disbanded Moreland Commission, which was formed to investigate public corruption, met Wednesday in Soares' office under a veil of secrecy.
One commission member said the panel discussed "Moreland-related matters," but would not elaborate.
The entrance to Soares' office on the fourth floor of Albany County Judicial Center was closed as panel members and a high-profile attorney retained by the commission met from late morning to early afternoon.
