Related: About this forumAP Calls Race For Rangel
Nick Reisman
Democratic Rep. Charlie Rangel was declared the winner of the 13th Congressional District Democratic primary by the Associated Press on Wednesday, once again edging out state Sen. Adriano Espaillat.
Rangel, who would take office in January for a 23rd term, was congratulated in a statement by Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chair Steve Israel.
I congratulate Congressman Rangel on his victory. As a decorated veteran and Congressman, Charlie has been a trailblazer, dedicated advocate, and an outspoken voice for New Yorkers in Washington. While Republicans in Congress continue to stack the deck for special interests, Congressman Rangel has fought to protect and strengthen the community in northern Manhattan and the Bronx.
