Paging Dr. Zucker: There's a stack of fracking reports for your review, and the compilers would like to speak with you.
The anti-fracking group Concerned Health Professionals of NY on Thursday released a compendium of reports on hydraulic fracturing and its potential adverse effects in New York, and called for a meeting with Acting State Health Commissioner Howard Zucker to discuss the findings.
"We could find no evidence that fracking can be implemented safely under any regulatory regime," said Sandra Steingraber, a scholar in residence at Ithaca College and longtime anti-fracking activist, in a news conference at the Capitol. "There are problems with fracking that appear to be inherent to the system and that are unremediable by any regulatory framework."
The compendium outlines a laundry list of what the group said is evidence of risks, harm and associated trends related to fracking from water contamination and radioactive releases to possible increases in seismic activity.
