Four lobbying groups can keep donors private

Joseph Spector

Four lobbying groups that had been seeking to keep their donors private can do so, a state hearing officer ruled today.

The lobbying groups—Family Planning Advocates, the New York State Women’s Equality Coalition, New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms and the New York Civil Liberties Union—had sought to keep their donors private, fearing for their safety if disclosed publicly.

But the Joint Commission on Public Ethics ruled in January that the information should be made public. The groups appealed in April, and the ruling today agreed with them. The ruling is binding.
