Poll finds Bill Thompson leading New York City mayor's race

Eyewitness News

NEW YORK (WABC) -- A new poll puts former City Comptroller and 2009 mayoral challenger Bill Thompson in the lead among likely Democratic voters in the race for New York City Mayor.

Thompson leads over City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner in the mayoral primary runoff - if Thompson can make it to the runoff - according to the Quinnipiac University poll released on Wednesday.

The polling was done between July 18 and July 23, mostly before the new revelations about Weiner sexting another woman. It is unclear whether that news had any impact on the results.

If Weiner drops out of the race, Quinn gets 30 percent to Thompson's 26 percent, with 21 percent for Public Advocate Bill de Blasio and 10 percent for Comptroller John Liu.

Keep her out of the runoff
or keep weiner out of the runoff

One problem voters just aren't thrilled with Thompson, he's just so damn laid back. That's why i personally can't get into him. I feel like does he just nap all day or what?

and many people do not know who Bill DeB is, the media is not going to give him any time until either for some reason he gains in the polls or weiner drops out. Even though he seems like he's just a liberal activist, homeboy is not dumb. He ran Hillary Clinton's senate campaign, he is no stranger to serious politics so he can surprise you. And btw, he is the only person in the race with a post graduate degree. Yes, that's right.

I think even if Weiner doesn't drop out, by the next poll people he may be close to tied with Thompson.

Bill DeB would be an awesome Mayor.

Logically it would be wise to back Thompson since he is closest in the polls to Weiner and can beat him even if no one drops out, but i might just back BdB until August polls and by then it will be obvious who to support, it'll be whoever can beat Weiner or Quinn.

I believe our next Mayor will be thompson or bdb. I have less fear of Quinn by the day, but will be hyperviligant in working to defeat her.

I think it really sucks that we most likely lost a very good politician in Weiner. He's liberal, he works hard, he's up for a challange and is a leader on important issues. And overall, he probably would have been the best, but unfortunately he was unable to 1, control his behavior, and by that i just mean the photos, he shoulda stuck with phone sex, or even screwed her in person, and 2, he's such a limp dick in how he's handling it. It's becoming pathetic. And now he's screwed ny just as much as he screwed himself. Now we get Mr. Laid Back? great. *eyeroll*. I'm pissed. You might want to just keep backing him until we see how things evolve. But more pics will come out. I was talking to someone in another candidate's campaign and they were telling me something bad is gonna come out, and i believe him.
