Haven for kids possible-immigration story

By Rick Karlin

Albany

The Albany Diocese's Catholic Charities organization is exploring the possibility of housing at least a handful of the thousands of youngsters who have been coming across the U.S.-Mexico border to escape the violence plaguing their home nations in Central America.

"We're looking into it," Catholic Charities CEO Vince Colonno said Wednesday, explaining that the group is talking to its counterparts in Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo to see how they might cooperate in hosting some of the immigrants.

Colonno said the group has put in a preliminary application with the federal Department of Health and Human Services to serve as a host, but needs to make sure they have the resources.

since I am not able to take any of these children. Maybe this will also make other diocese and other churches take up the call.
