Moreland Commission lawyer to cost taxpayers up to $300,000

Joseph Spector

The state Comptroller’s Office has approved a $300,000 contract with an Albany-based law firm to represent the now defunct Moreland Commission in an investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The contract was approved Friday, a spokeswoman for the comptroller’s office said. It was also approved by the state Attorney General’s Office. It was started on May 16 and runs through Dec. 31.

The contract with the firm, Hinckley, Allen & Snyder LLP, will also include a $550 an hour charge to its top attorney in the case, Michael Koenig, the Wall Street Journal reported.
