Union-allied group takes new tack on Campbell Brown

Eliza Shapiro

The teachers' union-allied education group Alliance for Quality Education (A.Q.E.) released a report Friday portraying Campbell Brown as an elitist right-wing puppet for Wall Street tycoons.

The A.Q.E. report—essentially a for-public-consumption oppo-research dossier—argues that Brown, who has become the local face of the movement against teacher tenure after filing a lawsuit challenging New York's tenure laws, is an illegitimate spokesperson for any education issue, since she has never been a teacher and enrolls her children in private schools.

(Her children attend religious school.)

When asked recently why she has made public education her primary focus even though her children do not attend public schools, Brown told reporters that she believes her situation underscores the inequity across the educational system.
