AG's office supplying heroin antidote kits to 12 SUNY campuses

By James Gormley

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced Wednesday that 12 State University of New York campuses will be joining his Community Overdose Prevention Program. The Attorney General's Office will provide funding to equip 258 campus police officers with naloxone, the heroin antidote that can instantly reverse the effects of an opioid or heroin overdose.

The COP Program uses funds seized from drug dealers and other criminals to reimburse local police departments for the cost of naloxone kits. The SUNY campuses that applied for funding are: Purchase, Potsdam, Buffalo, Cortland, Oswego, Albany, Geneseo, Adirondack, Canton, Utica/Rome, Farmingdale, and New Paltz.

Drug addiction is here to stay, it must be treated with intelligence and not old fashioned ignorance.
