Oil spill at Port of Albany contained

Paul Grondahl

ALBANY — About 100 gallons of crude oil spilled from a pipeline at the Global Partners tank facility at the Port of Albany Wednesday afternoon, but it was contained to a small area and did not reach the nearby Hudson River, state Department of Environmental Conservation officials said.

Albany firefighters, DEC spill responders and other emergency personnel responded around 3:45 p.m. and there were no injuries reported, Albany Fire Chief Warren Abriel said.

I just loooove the North River (see what I did there, Justin? I referred to the Hudson by what NewYawkers refer to it by. See what I did there again? I said "NewYawkers" as a tip of the hat to my old pal and your fellow Brooklynite, NewYawker99). I could riff for hours...

I was riffing on the years of my Ocean Liner History study in which the Hudson was referred to as "The North River" in various texts, driving me to atlases at the Library looking for this fabled "North River", only to discover they were talking about the Hudson!
