NY1News
After bargaining through the night, officials from CBS and Time Warner Cable announced Tuesday morning that they have agreed to continue their carriage fee negotiations through Friday in the hope of avoiding a service blackout of CBS programming in New York and other major cities.
The two had originally set a deadline of 5 p.m. Monday to come to an agreement, but they extended the deadline by three three hours until 8 p.m., then subsequently pushed it hour by hour through midnight, at which point the two sides continued to negotiate overnight.
With an agreement still lacking at 5 a.m., officials announced that they had pushed back the deadline until Friday at 5 p.m. in the hope of avoiding a CBS blackout.
If a carriage deal cannot be reached by then, Time Warner Cable has threatened to pull CBS programming off its system in major cities including New York, Los Angeles and Dallas.

(25,183 posts)telling people to call them up. Of course, CBS carries them. It's sort of like two "professional" wrestlers growling at each other, then going out together for a steak dinner after the "fight".
In any case, I have to laugh my butt off, because no matter what some cable company decides, I'm getting my broadcasts from my antenna!

(25,183 posts)And its not even a rooftop model. I bought a Winegard SS3000 for dirt cheap through BensBargains.net (where I've been shopping for geek toys for about a dozen years now) , and while I live about 25 miles away from the city, I get pretty good digital reception on about a dozen or so channels that I have marked as favorites on my TV. I'd like to invest in something a bit stronger for my bedroom TV upstairs, all I have is some flat-panelled thing I bought at Home Depot, and it doesn't get anywhere near the reception as the Winegard does half a floor below in my townhouse.
It's nice to have no cable bill for crap-filled channels full of advertising.

(71,265 posts)$160 bill for phone, internet, and cable. I watch MSNBC and CNN the most on cable. HBO has some good things but I cut back on all the other premium channels.

(25,183 posts)I'd just use my Roku boxes to get most of what I'd watch from cable through it. They have it in my neighborhood, but they conveniently neglect my little cul-de-sac when putting it all in. Of course, they'd try to sell the the whole damned package, but just like the Jiffy Lube, I've learned to just say no.

(25,183 posts)I certainly wouldn't be buying some package including phone and TV, I'd just want Internet access through the fiber alone. Cable internet just doesn't work in my building, and all we have now is the very lowest speed DSL the phone company offers, and they barely got that hooked up about seven years ago. I was thinking of one of those new wireless access point devices that uses the 4G network, and getting it through T-Mobile, my cell phone provider, but I haven't really looked into it as of yet.

(25,183 posts)Glad to have been off of it, but I do really want some decent high speed bandwith. Anything else I want, I can get through that.
