Labor, clergy organize a ‘moral march to the polls’

By James Gormley

Marking the 51st anniversary of the march on Washington, labor unions and faith groups convened on the steps of the Capitol Thursday to call for a higher minimum wage, more education funding and an end to corruption in state government.

Coinciding with similar rallies at 12 other state capitols, more than 100 protesters backed several speakers — including clergy and labor leaders —who say the current leadership in Albany is more concerned with campaign donors and special interests than average New Yorkers.
