State releases long-awaited teacher, principal evaluation results

Sarah Moses

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The New York State Education Department released the long-awaited state-mandated teacher and principal evaluation results this afternoon.

The preliminary statewide 2012-13 results were reported to the public in October 2013 and today the final data was made available to the public. The release of evaluation data enables New Yorkers to see, for the first time, the results of their schools' teacher and principal evaluations.

"The goal of the evaluation process is to improve teaching and learning by targeting professional development where it is most needed in order to improve student outcomes. When teachers and principals receive the right tools to improve their practice, their students benefit -- it's really as straightforward as that," according to a release from the state Education Department.
