The Public Service Commission’s big Comcast moment

Bill Sanderson

Everyone in New York is powerless before the cable company—except the state's Public Service Commission.

Internet too slow? Fed up with rising TV prices? You and I are stuck arguing with those unhelpful phone representatives. But the commission deals with cable company reps in person.

Since Comcast announced plans to merge with Time Warner Cable, PSC members or their staff have had five non-public meetings with Comcast officials, records show. At least one of the meetings, as Capital has reported, also included a Cuomo administration official.

What was said at the meetings isn't public record: The PSC responded to a FOIL request for records or notes of the meetings by saying there aren't any.
