Bronx man arrested for breaking new ammunition clip law

BREWSTER – A Bronx man is being held in the Putnam County Jail without bail following his arrest for gun possession and breaking the new state law by having more than seven rounds in a magazine.

State Police stopped a van for speeding and equipment violations while driving on I-84 through Putnam County on Tuesday. A passenger, Wilfredo Rodriguez, 40, was found in possession of a 9 mm pistol and two magazines with 10 rounds of ammunition in each. He was charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon, felony criminal possession of stolen property and misdemeanor unlawful possession of certain ammunition feeding devices.

The gun has been stolen in Norwalk, Connecticut.

The vehicle was operated by Rodriguez’s sister. When police stopped it, they observed evidence of marijuana use and that prompted the search that revealed the gun and ammunition.

charge with criminal possession of a weapon.

My question is:

Why would any rational person believe that a criminal would only load 7 rounds in the 10 round magazine of his illegal pistol?

Criminals are not extremely bright but most will tell you that when the magazine runs dry on the honest guy's gun, their weapon will still have 3 rounds left in the magazine.

The smart criminal will probably buy an illegal 15 or 17 round magazine for his pistol on the black market. That way he will have at least twice the amount of rounds that the honest guy has in his pistol.
