Mark-Viverito forms new legal services committee-NYC Council

City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito will announce the creation of a new committee today focused on courts and legal services, to be led by Rory Lancman, a Queens Democrat.

The committee will be charged with promoting access to free or affordable legal representation.

“Every New Yorker is entitled to equal justice under the law,” Mark-Vierito told Capital through a spokesman. “The Committee on Courts and Legal Services and the City Council will work with community partners and city agencies to identify ways to meet that fundamental goal."
