Cuomo pivots to November

Jimmy Vielkind

BUFFALO—Shrugging off a smaller-than-expected primary victory, Governor Andrew Cuomo pivoted toward the general election Wednesday during a downtown rally in an upstate city he's assiduously courted.

In a campaign event at the convention center, Cuomo repeated his attacks on a brand of “ultra conservative” Republicanism he believes includes his opponent, Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, then made a shameless regional pitch.

Erie County produced a solid margin of support for Cuomo and his running mate, Kathy Hochul, a former congresswoman who has a long career in local politics. Cuomo presented Hochul as evidence of his commitment to upstate and the Queen City itself.
