Regulators contradict Indian Point on earthquake risk

Scott Waldman

ALBANY—The federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission will require the Indian Point nuclear facility to conduct a high-level earthquake risk report.

Indian Point's owner, Entergy, argued its Unit 3 reactor should not be placed in the highest risk category because the risk had been overstated, and that it would be burdensome for the facility to conduct seismic risks on both units at once, according to N.R.C. documents.
