Longtime Democratic Strategist Bill Lynch Dies At 72

Longtime Democratic strategist Bill Lynch, who was instrumental in electing the city's first black mayor and whose impact on on city politics spanned four decades, passed away on Friday. NY1's Courtney Gross filed the following report.

Bill Lynch was known as the "rumpled genius."

"As you know the Democratic party sees it self as a big tent party, and we welcome everybody," said Lynch.

He got the nickname after he orchestrated the successful campaign of David Dinkins, the city's first black mayor.

"I never ever would have been mayor had it not been for Bill Lynch," said Dinkins.
