Sources: Obama planning Upstate swing next week

President Barack Obama is planning a bus tour in Upstate New York and Pennsylvania later next week, White House officials confirmed.

The White House has not released details, but a source familiar with the president’s travel plans said Obama is will stop in or near Buffalo, Syracuse, Binghamton and Scranton, Pa. on August 22 and 23. Politico first reported Monday afternoon that Obama would be building on an economic message of strengthening the middle class that he began pushing last week.

The president is vacationing this week in Martha’s Vineyard.

While it doesn’t seem he’ll be coming on this sojourn, Obama has been no stranger to the Capital Region, visiting three times since he took office in 2009. That year, the president touted job training programs at Hudson Valley Community College, including TEC-SMART, a satellite campus near the Malta GlobalFoundries chip fab that opened in January 2010. Obama toured a General Electric turbine factory in 2011.
