By DAN MOSHER
Former Gov. Eliot Spitzer has picked up a weighty endorsement in his bid to become New York City's next comptroller. Spitzer faces Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer for the Democratic nomination, which holds its primaries on Sept 10.
Spitzer picked up the endorsement of the Civil Service Employees Association, one of the state's largest public employee unions. CSEA represents more than 15,000 people in New York City, both retired and still working. The union says it has worked "productively" and "respectfully" in the past with Spitzer while he served in statewide positions.
According to a statement released by the union last week, "The decision was based on Spitzer's strong record of accomplishment as the 'Sheriff of Wall Street' during his time as New York state attorney general and governor."
This is the first union endorsement the former governor has received since beginning his campaign to become the city's top financial watchdog. Stringer, on the other hand, has received a plethora of union support including the United Federation of Teachers and the city's largest union, the Service Employees International Union Local 1199.

(71,265 posts)but when it comes to money and where it goes...Spitzer is the best. I don't see any experience in auditing in Stringer's background. What's wrong with the job he already has? He seems more geared for Borough President.

(71,265 posts)The office of controller is a limited office so what they make of it will be interesting.

(12,287 posts)Stringer seems to like making change, like making bike paths and stuff like that. Why does he want to do this? It's not a move up, it's lateral or down even.
