Bill de Blasio surges into lead in new poll in race for New York City mayor

Eyewitness News

NEW YORK (WABC) -- A new poll shows Bill de Blasio has taken over the lead among Democratic candidates in the race for New York City Mayor.

The Quinnipiac University poll shows de Blasio, New York City's Public Advocate, with the support of 30 percent of voters surveyed.

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn has 24 percent, with 22 percent for former Comptroller William Thompson, 10 percent for former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner, 6 percent for Comptroller John Liu, 1 percent for former Council member Sal Albanese and 7 percent undecided.

The poll was released hours before Tuesday night's debate among the Democratic candidates, hosted by WABC-TV, and with less than a month remaining until the Sept. 10 primary.
