NY1 Exclusive: DOE Bumps Up Price Of School Lunches For Some, Makes It Free For Others

NY1news

NY1 has learned that the Department of Education is telling schools Wednesday that it's hiking the price of school lunch 17 percent, from $1.50 to $1.75 per student per day.

It's the first time in a decade that the DOE has increased the price of school lunch.

However, while the price is going up for many families, the city has decided not to charge other families at all.

In the past, students qualified for free lunch, reduced-price lunch or full-price lunch, based on household income. Starting this year, students who qualify for reduced-price lunch will eat for free, but students who pay will pay more.
