Officials Announce Rockaway Beach Restoration Project

Work is set to get underway to replace what Hurricane Sandy washed away.
During the storm, the city lost about 3.5 million cubic yards of sand from its shores.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg joined officials on Rockaway Beach Thursday to announce a multi-million dollar restoration project.
He said it's an important step in preventing future damage.
