Driver speeds away from traffic stop in Queens, dragging police officer behind

By Tom Tracy AND Joe Stepansky / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

A traffic stop turned into a real drag for a Queens police officer early Sunday, officials said.

The cop had pulled over a white Pontiac at Springfield Blvd. and 115th Ave. in Queens Village shortly after 1 a.m. when the driver sped off, dragging the officer a short distance, sources said.

The cop suffered shoulder injuries and was brought to the hospital for treatment.

Police were hunting the driver. It was not immediately clear why the motorist had been stopped.

In a separate incident, another officer was bumped by a cab making a tight turn on Malcolm X Blvd. and W. 132nd St. in Harlem shortly before 3 a.m., police sources said. Police said there was no criminality and the cop appeared uninjured, but was brought to St. Luke's Hospital for a checkup.
