Rally Of Quinn Supporters At Former Site Of St. Vincent's Hospital Gets Physical

NY1news

The top three contenders in the Democratic primary were all revisiting the closure of St. Vincent's Hospital Monday, and the topic caused quite a stir at the now-shuttered hospital site.

A press conference held Monday morning by Christine Quinn's mayoral campaign at the former site of St. Vincent's Hospital was intended to defend Quinn's record of fighting against the closure and to argue that Quinn was able to make sure there would be a 24-hour emergency care facility on the site when the hospital closed in 2010.

However, not only did an anti-Quinn group protest the press conference, a publisher of a West Village newspaper, George Capsis, got into a physical confrontation with a state senator and a Quinn campaign intern.

Quinn immediately condemned the act, saying at a press conference in Brooklyn later that there was no room for violence on the campaign trail.
