Irate New York City billionaire lashes out at Amherst, Erie County

A state court decision allowing Amherst to take over a former gas station in Eggerstville means the "zombie" property is close to coming back to life.

But the New York City billionaire who owns the site is so frustrated by the town's attempt to grab control that he said he's made a decision: Erie County is dead to him.

"We will make zero investment in Erie County. Thank you for burning another businessman," said John A. Catsimatidis, who owns dozens of Kwik Fill gas stations and Red Apple convenience stores in this area through his United Refining Co. "We will create zero new investments. We will create zero new jobs."

Catsimatidis said he has tried to negotiate in good faith but that the town hasn't cooperated. He said Amherst's anti-business attitude has soured him on any future development here.

It has to be disappointing and depressing seeing abandoned property that can be improved. He had no intention of redevoloping the site or creating jobs.

He's run for governor.

He is the ex-father-in-law of Richard Nixon's grandson, Chris Cox.
