NRC approves IP2’s continued operation while license renewal process continues

BUCHANAN – The Nuclear Regulatory commission has given Entergy Corporation formal notice that it may continue to operate its Indian Point 2 nuclear power plant under its existing license while the renewal process advances.

The plant’s current license is set to expire on September 28, but the plant will continue to operate, said spokesman Jerry Nappi.

“This is permitted by well-established federal law because the company filed for license renewal more than five years ago,” he said.

Entergy filed for another 20 years of operation in April 2007.
