Auditor is audited in battle of audits

The Cuomo administration had an audit dust-up with Comptroller Tom DiNapoli on Tuesday.

While DiNapoli usually audits various state agencies, this time his office was the target of an audit — by the governor's Department of Financial Services, headed by Ben Lawsky.

The DFS audit found that the comptroller's mainframe computer system, which processes public employee pension transactions, dates to the 1980s and its technology program is "approaching a point of failure."

The ancient computer lacks modern protections, a solid emergency backup plan and leaves "data vulnerable to bugs and to security breaches, including attacks by hackers," Lawksy's audit said.
