Rajkumar (D) and Williams (D) clash in final public advocate debate

With early voting set to start this weekend, the two Democratic candidates running for public advocate took jabs at each other in their final debate Wednesday night.

The hour-long debate between Queens Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar and incumbent Public Advocate Jumaane Williams covered a host of issues, including public safety, mental health and housing.

“He has called to defund the police for years and that is not helpful. And so we don’t have people joining the police because our elected officials are disrespectful of law enforcement,” Rajkumar said during the debate, hosted by WNBC/NBC New York, WNJU/Telemundo 47 and Politico.

“I just want to be clear. None of that is true. And what happens is when you don’t know how this office works or what to do with it. You come up with Trumpy attacks that you get from Twitter, or you get from Mayor Eric Adams,” Williams responded.
