Bronx charity director accused of draining bank account

Eyewitness News
NEW YORK (WABC) -- The former executive director of a South Bronx charity was arrested this morning for its questionable financial practices.

Yolanda Gonzalez was charged with stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the not-for-profit Nos Quedamos.

Gonzalez is the daughter of the late founder of the organization, which translates to "We Stay." An investigation revealed she drained the group's bank accounts and put several relatives on the payroll.

The investigation is the second by Attorney General Eric Schneiderman to result in the head of a charity in recent weeks.

The internet has some valuable sites reporting on, for instance, the percentage of donations that reach the target.

There seems to be more and more of that all the time, charity drives at checkout counters.

Sign of the times, I guess.
