Half Of City's Taxi Fleet To Be Wheelchair Accessible Under Settlement

NY1NEWS

Advocates for greater handicapped access to taxis have scored a major victory after a new settlement proposes half of all medallion taxi cabs in the city will be wheelchair accessible by the year 2020.

Pending approval, the Taxi and Limousine Commission will be required to gradually phase out traditional taxi cabs with wheelchair accessible vehicles.

Public hearings will be held on the matter next year.

The settlement brings to a close a lawsuit filed by several groups against the city.
