Beltran, Yankees agree at $45M, 3 years

AP RONALD BLUM
NEW YORK -- Two people familiar with the negotiations say outfielder Carlos Beltran and the New York Yankees have agreed to a $45 million, three-year contract.

The people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Friday night because the agreement was subject to a physical and had not yet been announced. The deal was first reported by the New York Daily News.

Beltran, 36, is an eight-time All-Star who played in New York for the Mets from 2005-11, when he was dealt to San Francisco. He signed a $26 million, two-year contract with St. Louis before the 2012 season and reached the World Series for the first time this year.

He joins a crowded Yankees outfield, with holdovers Brett Gardner and Ichiro Suzuki, and newcomer Jacoby Ellsbury, whose $153 million, seven-year deal is pending.

I wish we could have kept him for one more year. I do look forward to see what the Cardinals do with the draft pick.
