Governor calls on MTA to implement new safety precautions ASAP

ALBANY – New York Governor Andrew Cuomo wrote to MTA Chairman Thomas Prendergast on Friday telling him that the MTA “should expedite automated speed control for vulnerable track locations” on the Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road systems, including those where there is a significant speed change.

Cuomo said positive train control “offers the most comprehensive systemic solution to prevent railroad collisions and speed conditions that can lead to derailments.”
