Related: About this forumCuomo reportedly meddling with appointment of progressive as city council speaker
Andrew Cuomo's office has denied an anonymously sourced report today from ally-turned-nemesis Fred Dicker that the governor is intervening in the City Council speaker's race to block Bill de Blasio's chosen candidate, Melissa Mark-Viverito.
What's undeniable, though, is that Mark-Viverito, a staunchly liberal Democrat, doesn't much like Cuomo's politics.
She told me in an interview back in 2011 that Cuomo's approach sometimes is a little too much for me, and that that governor gave her the feeling hes in a vacuum just talking to the academics. Around that same time, in an interview with radio host Roberto Perez, Mark-Viverito said Cuomo was effectively a Scott Walker-style Republican on economic issues.

While most city and state Democrats limited their criticisms of Cuomo's anti-tax positioning to background carping, Mark-Viverito declared that Cuomo was failing a basic Democratic litmus test.
"He just can't deal with social issues, catering to the Democratic base on social issues," she said in October 2011. "We need income equity as well."

A Scott Walker Republican. Finally, someone gets it.

Andrew Cuomos team is fully denying a New York Post report today alleging the governor is quietly working to thwart Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio by backing a rival candidate in the race for City Council speaker.
Mr. Dicker, citing unnamed Democratic insiders, said Mr. Cuomo was engaged in a last-ditch effort to block Melissa Mark-Viverito, a de Blasio ally, from attaining the post, because she is too liberal to fit into Mr. Cuomos more moderate agenda.

I tend to believe Dicker on this one.

Wow.
She sounds to good to be true.
" in an interview with radio host Roberto Perez, Mark-Viverito said Cuomo was effectively a Scott Walker-style Republican on economic issues."
Edit to ad: I guess that accounts for the snide NYT editorial ( yesterday?) accusing dB of hypocrisy for interfering in Council politics.
NYT board fears real change.
