De Blasio applauds gov's speech, confident about expanding pre-K

By MATTHEW DONDIEGO

Following Gov. Andrew Cuomo's fourth State of the State Address, the new mayor of the city of New York Bill de Blasio applauded the governor's speech saying it included a number of items that would greatly benefit his constituents.

De Blasio, who since being elected as the 109th mayor of New York City has become a rising star in the Democratic Party, said he was pleased with the progressivity of Cuomo's address and "there was a thread running through this entire speech connecting it to the historic progressive values of our state and certainly of New York City."

"Speaking on behalf of the people of New York City I thought there was a lot in this speech that will make the lives of New Yorkers better," De Blasio continued. "I found his agenda to be a progressive, proactive agenda to the future of the state and obviously so many of the agenda items will be particularly helpful to the people of New York City."

De Blasio, who appeared in Albany for the first time since being elected mayor, said he was gratified by the reception he received from a number of state Assembly and Senate members, saying "it has been a very positive day as I prepare to build a very constructive working relationship with all the leaders in Albany."
