New York City riddled with pot holes after storms, salt

NEW YORK (WABC) -- As if the commute isn't messy enough with the ice and slush left over from Wednesday's storm, there's another danger drivers have to look out for.

Massive pot holes are opening up on New York City streets and highways, posing yet another hazard to residents just trying to get to work safely.

Driving has become a real obstacle course, trying to avoid the potholes that are now too numerous to count. The winter weather, bitter cold and numerous storms, in addition to all the salt, have eaten away at the Belt Parkway in particular.

Pot holes there dot the road like a checkerboard, and if you hit one the wrong way, you're likely to wind up with a flat tire or damage to your car.

1. When I lived on LI,

they used sand instead of salt. No, it didn't melt anything, but it did give traction and didn't destroy the roads. Of course, it also didn't go away for months afterward. I suppose it was cheap, and plentiful!
