Exclusive: Problems with runway lights at JFK Airport

NEW YORK (WABC) -- An investigation into maintenance at JFK Airport finds serious problems with the electrical wiring to runway and taxiway lights.

Sources at the airport tell Eyewitness News that years of neglect have left long stretches of taxiways in the dark as seen in exclusive video.

We also obtained video of smoke pouring out of this manhole cover on a main JFK runway, underneath wiring to the lights burning and melting.

Our investigation has learned that last month, a power outage darkened the lights on a main runway at the airport causing some tense moments for pilots and passengers:
