Schumer: Army Corps of Engineers begins dredging Little Sodus Bay in Cayuga County

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is beginning to dredge Little Sodus Bay Harbor in Fair Haven back to pre-Superstorm Sandy levels, U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer announced Tuesday.
The project will cost $530,000 and will be financed using Sandy supplemental funds. Schumer, D-N.Y., said Tuesday he had a meeting with Lt. Col. Owen Beaudoin, Buffalo district director of the Army Corps of Engineers. Beaudoin told Schumer that the dredging would be completed by the end of May.
"When it comes to dredging our ports, there is no time to waste, which is why I've kept the pressure on the Army Corps to accomplish this Little Sodus Harbor dredging, especially since Superstorm Sandy," Schumer said. "The timeline to finish dredging by the end of May is great news and it means we will soon get Little Sodus Bay moving full steam ahead, which will be an enormous boost this summer to the regional economy, family boaters and fishing charters."
Little Sodus Bay was last dredged in 2005. Over time, there has been less traffic in the harbor because it's not deep enough to handle larger boats.
