NY Controller: Average Securities Industry Bonus Topped $164K In 2013: Highest Since '08

CELESTE KATZ

Securities workers scored an average cash bonus of $164,530 last year -- a 15% jump and the biggest score since 2008's financial crisis, state Controller Thomas DiNapoli said Wednesday.

The haul is the third-highest on record.

“Although profits were lower than the prior year, the industry still had a good year in 2013 despite costly legal settlements and higher interest rates," DiNapoli reported. "Wall Street continues to demonstrate resilience as it evolves in a changing regulatory environment.”

Broker/dealer operations of the New York Stock Exchange member firms came out to $16.7 billion in 2013, which, per DiNapoli, is 30% less than in 2012's $23.9 billion, "but still strong by historical standards."
